Visit a Zoo Day 2015
Who new there was such a day? Not that we needed another reason to visit, but there really is a Visit the Zoo Day. Im super bummed that we wont be able to go today. We have so many other errands to run, but we went 3 times this month so, I think I will live. I think.
So since I can't go to the zoo, I'm going to share some of my most favorite memories and photos of our many trips. And not just to the San Antonio Zoo, but a few others too! Just a little warning, there will be snakes, probably a few at that..
I don't remember my first visit to the Zoo. The story goes something a little like this. I was still little, Dad said about 3 or 4 and we were at the Albuquerque Zoo. Dad set me up on the ledge of the python enclosure and the poor think must have thought I was lunch because Im told he came up to the glass and was tracking me as I walked back and forth along the ledge. Figure that is where my love/hate relationship with snakes originated. The Zoo, well animals for that matter, were our thing. He always made a point to visit one where ever we went.
This is one of my most favorite photos. I'm not sure which Zoo though.
I knew that someday I would have kids and prayed that they would love animals as much as I do. Boy did I get lucky. Ant has practically grown up in the San Antonio Zoo. And Lex has been going since he was in my belly if that counts.
I love finding photos like these. I wasn't kidding when I said he grew up here!

I spotted this sweet baby at the San Diego Zoo in 2012. Or was it Houston? I can't remember!
This is one of my top 5 favorites at the San Antonio Zoo.
I believe this is Bentley the Black Bear.
Pretty in Pink.
Another one of my top 5 favs.
The Sun Bear looks is such an odd looking guy!

Acting lazy like we dont know shes the fastest one here!
Flo the Grizzly in 2008.
We found this guy at the Houston Zoo in 2011.

I love taking my boys to the Zoo, but when my whole family goes, we look like a tour group! There were 17 of us and only 7 were adults. It was a few days after we said good by to day but us older kids had such great memories with him at that very same Zoo.

Well that got a lot longer than expected. I ended up taking a trip down memory lane. I know I have pictures from a few other Zoos somewhere but I could not find them. Tampa, Honolulu and somewhere in New England that I can't remember. Boo. Ill have to dig em up.
When was the last time you visited the zoo? Do you have a favorite animal?

Happiness is ______ {Week 27} #happinessis
We spent the last few days doing a whole lot of relaxing. My oldest brother flew down to spend the holiday with us and we were all so glad to have him. I really hope we didn't bore the heck out of him, because we are home bodies and unless its soccer season, there isn't a whole bunch going on around here. Lets just say he got lots of rest here! But we did fit in a few adventures this weekend. The tree lighting and the Zoo!
Happiness is a boat load of food and lots of full bellies!

Happiness is a mesmerized 4 year old. He loved this guy! His smile when this dinosaur opens his mouth and growls...
We also managed to miss the tree lighting ceremony by a few minutes, thanks the insane lack of parking. But...
Happiness is light up swords!
The next day we hit up the San Antonio Zoo.
Happiness is new additions! (Love the name Sarabi. Name that movie...)
Happiness is Tadpoles. Anthony just got some as class pets so he had lots of information for me!
Happiness is Alex excitedly telling everyone just how much an elephant can weigh. Seven slugbugs yall! 7!
Happiness is just wanting one nice picture...
Seriously. Just one!
Happiness is my favorite part of the whole Zoo. The Snake house :)
Happiness is a day spent with my family. At a place we all love. I cant wait to see all the new additions when they are finished!
Happiness was just having my brother and sister here with us for the holiday. I'm so glad he chose to spend my favorite holiday with us and the boys soaked up every minute with him! Be sure to stop by Crazy Adventures in Parenting and see what happiness others are sharing! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and weekend!

Happiness is ______ {Week 16} #happinessis
Happiness can be found everywhere if you look hard enough. While last week was pretty dreadful, when the weekend came around, it was nothing but smiles around here
David had promised us a fun filled weekend. And he did not disappoint. First things first, we had to drop off Bruce...

Oh how we miss him. He was our foster Dane and stayed with us for 3 weeks. Its crazy how much happiness this little big guy brought us in those weeks. But the day came to send him off to his new home. And while it was sad to leave him we were all super happy that he found a family to love him til the end of his days!
Then it was Movie time! We have started movie time at the house during the day but David surprised us with tickets to see Despicable Me 2. Talk about funny. The boys got popcorn...and candy and we had a blast. They were pretty impressed by the 3D too!
After the movies we needed to drain all the sugar out of our boys, who were convinced they were minions! So off to the zoo we went. Alex just wanted to see the elephant. He has told everyone he can that an elephant weighs as much as 6 slug bugs (VW Beetles). I guess it was on a sign somewhere and his brother read it for him! He said that makes him happy because he loves elephants and slug bugs. Hey what ever works. We had to leave my happy place for last. The snake house! I LOVE it in there. And I always leave with a ridiculous smile on my face!
After the Zoo we went to Grandmas house. It was her birthday so the boys had some cake and ice cream before a certain 8 year old realized that mom wasn't kidding about to much sugar making you sick! Poor kid!
Sunday David had to work, which is another chance to see the bright side. Even though it took a chunk our of our fun filled weekend, his job is what allows us to enjoy things like movies and trips to the zoo. As soon as he got home though, the fun continued. Off to the dog park we went.

So in the end, it was a fun and happiness filled weekend. What made you happy this week? Summer is almost over. How did that happen? Its crunch time to get everything checked off so go out and have some fun! Be happy:) Dont forget to stop by Crazy Adventures in Parenting and see whats making Lisa and others happy!!

Lets go to the Zoo!
What is it about the Zoo that turns me into a child again. It might have a lot to do with the memories of going with my family when I was little. I have only one memory of the Albuquerque Zoo. That one involved a huge snake that followed me though the glass of its enclosure as I walked along the ledge. I remember feeling much better once I was back in Dads arms. I'm pretty sure that started my fascination with the slithery kind.
The San Diego Zoo was next. And many of trips to the Honolulu Zoo helped strengthen my love. We visited one in Massachusetts one Summer. And we have taken the boys to The Brevard, Houston and of course The San Antonio Zoo. The boys love Africa Live. The Hippos and Giraffes are always favorites of theirs. Me, I could spend an hour in the Snake House. I love it. As terrified as I am that one of the glass windows will pop open and a snake will fall at my feet, it is my favorite part of the whole zoo. That also explains why I have hundreds of pictures like these on my hard drive. These were taken this weekend. The boys bought me a family pass for Mothers Day. Perfect!
