What did you read in 2013?

I wasn't always a fan of reading books.  I hated the books we had to read in school.  But I think it was just because I hated being told what to read and having to have an opinion on it.  I read a few books after we left home but was mostly busy with work and fun.  Mostly Nicholas Sparks books that I had seen as movies first.

My real love of reading didn't start until I was pregnant with Alex and my old English teacher sent me a box full of books to help keep me entertained while I was supposed to be on bed rest.  She sent me One for the Money by Janet Evanovich.  I had never laughed so much reading a book and was instantly hooked. Imagine my surprise when I found out that she had a whole library of books for me to read.  I have read all but two of her books.  One was just hard to get in to (The Husband List) and the other is about how she started writing.  But all together I have read 49 of her books.

I have a thing for series.  I have read all of the Sookie Stackhouse series including all the companion books. Hunger Games, read.  I read 50 Shades, and I started Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone series. I read a handful of Nicholas Sparks titles and lots of health stories.  Half of what I checked out of the library were cookbooks.  I also started the Percy Jackson books with my oldest.  And he plans on reading the Hobbit next.  Not sure if he is quite ready for it.  But when his teacher suggested he do some deep reading and push himself, he really took it to heart!  I hope he always loves reading!

The only problem with reading, which might actually be a good thing too, is that all though I know I read them, because of my Encephalopathy, I don't remember them all.  Like Game of Thrones.  I know I read it, but all I can remember is the show.  My mind has a hard time hanging on to somethings.  But that just means I can read it again!  So I'm counting that as a win!

I saw this list of books to read before they hit the big screen and I put a few of them on hold at the library.  I love reading books that have movies coming out or are out already.  I always feel like I get a behind the scenes peek when I read the books.

My goal was to read 50 books this year.  And I only read 37

So I managed to read all but a few of the books I had planned on reading this year.  And I am putting together next years to read list.   What will I read?  I am looking forward to reading The Chase.  Its the second book of the Fox and O'Hare series from Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg.  And Top Secret Twenty One, which is the next Stephanie Plum novel.  It comes out this summer!  What other books do I need to put on the list?  Old or new, what is your favorite book?  And what are some titles on your 2014 list?

    1. Thank You Alvina! I tend to set my goals high! lol If I counted all the kids books I read, I would have made my goal, but I wanted to count only the books I read for myself. It helps that I am a fast reader and when I get sucked into a book I can finish it within hours.
