Menu Plan Monday: June 30th

June 30th

OK we are getting back to normal around here.  Close enough anyways.  We loved having my brother here even if it was just for a quick weekend.  And we still spent the whole week recovering from all the fun.  And after another busy weekend, here we go again.

Monday:  When I told David the boys were going to Grandmas and asked what he wanted for dinner, he offered to take me out.  What was I going to say??  No??  Neva!!  I love last minute Date nights!

Tuesday:  Taco Tuesday at the Munoz house!  Come on over :)

Wednesday:  Herb Baked Chicken.  The recipe is called Herb Chicken but it looks like I will be adding a little extra to it.  We will have mashed potatoes and salad on the side.  And the boys asked for mac and cheese so a little of that too.

Thursday: Keeping it easy and starting the weekend out with some relaxing.  Tuna melts make for a quick and easy dinner.  Chips and dip on the side.

Friday:  I cant wait.  There will be BBQ ribs and Teriyaki Chicken.  Potato salad, rice, corn and who knows what else.

Saturday:  Leftovers.  Time to clean out the fridge and get ready for another week.

Sunday:  Southwest Steak Wraps.  I uses this recipe but I grill up some flank steak and swap it out for the chicken.

Happiness is ______ {2014-W25} #happinessis

So I woke up this morning, finished the new Janet Evanovich book, had a slice of pizza and sat down at the computer to renew our licenses.  Well Davids.  I only have an ID.  But then I glanced down at the little clock and date on the bottom of the screen and though "oh crap its already Thursday?!"

Im consistent at one thing.  Island time.  So here I am posting a day late,  again....But I bring happiness so deal with it :)

Happiness is

Two wore out boys.  OK, I do feel a little bad for the horrible sleeping conditions.  But they boy promised they were not tired and thankfully I only needed a few things.  But I was able to get in and get it done quick. The fell asleep before we even got it the store.

DIY Fly Trap.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I love the summer heat.  I love sitting out in the back yard with the warm sun on me.  I love having picnics and dinner on the patio.  But I HATE the flies!  They are everywhere. Now I grew up on a tiny island in the pacific.  I am no stranger to the pesky little things.  They used to have these huge metal fly trap boxes at the beach that they would put squid in to attract the flies to. Not only were they an eyesore but the smell was beyond horrible.

So when I noticed the flies starting gather out back, I knew I needed to find away to get rid of them, that would not make my stomach turn.  So I hit up the Googles and found this DIY: Organic Fly Trap. I thought it was perfect.  It was easy, safe for the dogs and boys to be around and no awful smell.  There is no shortage of water bottles around here.  Don't worry, we recycle :)

You will need just a few things and you probably already have them on hand.

IMG_3055

Carefully cut off the top 1/3rd of the bottle.  Don't cut to high otherwise the top will just fall in when you turn it upside down.

IMG_3057

Snip of any super sharp edges.  But no need to let the OCD kick in, when you tape it up, the edges will all be covered.

IMG_3061

Pour in some of the corn syrup.  No need to fill it up.  Just a half inch or so.  You can tilt the bottle to bring the syrup up the sides of the bottle too.

IMG_3065

Drop in a piece of banana. Don't worry if you happen to drop it on the patio like I did.  The flies don't care! I promise you!  You can even drop a piece of banana peel.  They aren't picky!

IMG_3069

Now all you have to do is turn the top piece upside down, drop it in and tape the two together.  I used clear tape today, but I've used others.  Flies don't judge.

IMG_3073

As soon as I finished taping it all together, I set it in the middle of the table and let the magic happen. This was no more than 5 minutes later.  And when I moved it, the flies hung on for dear life.  They were determined to get in there.  Within an hour it was quite a party in there.  Eventually the flies will tire and fall into the corn syrup.  When its full or you are just so amazed and cant stand to see all the flies in the bottle just toss it in a bag and into the trash!

IMG_3090

I am sure you could to this with a larger bottle.  Like a 2 liter.  Just use a little more syrup.  Easy peasy right? Don't let the flies keep up inside this summer!  Take a few minutes and make a few of these.  Also, don't put them to close to your doors, they will abandon the mission for the A/C!  Trust me!

Weekend Wrap Up

This was probably one of the most laid back weekends I've had in a long while. Soccer is done. One more week of school. And I'm finally finding a little more energy to get through the days.

Friday after school we came home and did chores. And then we headed off to the pool.  Man did I need need it.  There is something so refreshing, mentally and physically about swimming. I feel free in the water. I love it. I need it.

Saturday flew right by.  I got my first bountiful basket and I am already looking forward to the next one. Have you heard of bountiful baskets?  I paid $15.00 + taxes for all of this. I usually spend that much in just fruit each week.  Alexander at the whole box of blackberries.   Well he gave the rest of us 2 each, then polished the rest off before anyone could ask for more. We have already had apples and bananas.  Some of the lettuce and tomatoes went into tonight's salad and I already have plans for the rest of it!  We also made a run to the library, went to for a drive around the back roads and explored a new park. The day ended with a win for the Spurs.  Talk about a nail biter but it was the perfect way to end the day!

Sunday mornings are always my favorite.   David and I stay in bed as late as we possibly can. He bought me breakfast and we got a chance to talk about a lot of things that have been weighing on our hearts. We also came up with a game plan for all the changes that will be coming up for us.   David had to work so the boys and I met up with some friends at the pool. I am so glad I have these girls. I don't know what I'd do without them. I'm so thankful for their friendship. We got home just in time to get dinner going before David got home.  We ended the day on a great note.  We talked about how easy it is to compare our lives to friends who have more than we do.  But the fact is, no matter how hard we are struggling right now, this is our life. Our boys are healthy and thriving.  Our marriage has never been stronger and we know that there are always people who are struggling with more.  God is good. We are blessed.

I feel excited and ready as we enter the last week of school.  Next year Alexander leaves me for Kindergarten and Anthony will be a 4th grader.  I am looking forward to a few months of enjoying them as they are now.  I remind myself daily that they will never be this young again.  Life is rolling full speed ahead. I might always be a little behind but I'm trying my best to keep up!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. And here's to a fabulous week!  Are we the last ones in school.  Almost everyone else I know is done!  Summer here we come!
